The Sad Hunter
This was my final project in my 2d Computer Animation class, the idea was to animate some short story with Flash. The character of The Sad Hunter actually came from a fairy tale I wrote called The Dumbest Wolf Saves the Day about a fairly average wolf within a pack up hyper intelligent psychologist/philosopher wolves who saves the day by not trying to be smart. The Sad Hunter, in the story, comes upon the wolves and threatens to kill them if they don't help him save his marriage. At the time I had been watching a lot of Sopranos and was thinking that it would be pretty funny to see that hunter in a counseling session. I had made a character out of him for a superhero project, his power was to make friends with animals (thus he's cut between killing them because he's a hunter and making friends with them).
Method:
I used Flash to make this animation, it involved me personally drawing everything and then importing that into Flash and drawing over that with Flash. The result is my child like drawing skills vectorized. I made everything in the back ground have a slightly greenish tinge to help subconsciously indicate something was weird (though the fact that it opens on a hunter talking to a dead wolf might help that also). The animation is really low key because I wanted to add a lot of awkwardness to it (notice the hunter barely blinks) until he gets angry at his wife. The voice actor was a professor on campus who really doesn’t move his mouth at all when he talks…it’s rather bizarre. He to date has not seen this animation, I’ve offered many times but he says he hates hearing himself speak.
By the way, if you want The Sad Hunter on a shirt or a cutting board go here. I don’t make any money off of this. Also, let me know if you if you have any special requests.
