NFL Logo

This was an interesting assignment. For the record I really couldn’t care less about the NFL and have a lot of logos I would have preferred working on aside from this. Unfortunately for me my professor decided to test me by giving me the logo he though I’d most hate, to see how well I would do with a project that I wasn’t passionate about. This was kind of difficult because I didn’t know how the NFL logo usually animated so I found a bunch of videos of different NFL logo animations and tried to find the basics behind each one. The project was to have a logo animation that acted as a transition between segments, so it would animate on and then back off in about 5-10 seconds.

Method:
For this project I had to think a lot more outside the box then I’m used to. I used everything from an actual football (overlaying it a few times cutting holes in layers textures were different in different parts of the image). All of that I overlaid on an American flag to give the flag that same texture and then add paint splashes of red, white and blue all over. In the end I think it turned out to be a fairly badass flag. The logo is actually 2d, but with some bevels it started to look 3d. Then the blow up into stars was actually just done through After Effect’s shatter function, of course I had it blow up into stars and then added some stars cut out from the flag for emphasis…and a huge explosion I generated in Motion. This project had a lot of different pieces to it and it didn’t look like it would work out until the very end, but both I and the professor were happy with it. It’s pretty good for a low budget two day project (and I had other classes also during those two days).
